October Big Day
Help us raise funds for our bird-related projects!

In the birding community, a "big day" is an attempt to see as many bird species as you can within a single 24 hour period.
Every year in October, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology hosts October Big Day, where they encourage birders across the world to use eBird and see how many species can be found in a single day. This year, The Kensington Conservancy has decided to align our annual birding fundraising event with October Big Day.
There are three ways that you can participate with The Kensington Conservancy for this event:
Go Birding - either as an individual or as a team, go out birding for the day on October 14th and see how many species you can find. At the end of the day, submit your species list to The Kensington Conservancy. How many species will we be able to collectively find? Birding is encouraged to take place in the Central Algoma area, however we will take teams from anywhere in the world! Participation is by donation.
Make a Pledge - you can make a pledge to donate a certain amount for every species of bird that the TKC Thrashers team records on October 14th. The TKC Thrashers will consist of our Executive Director Carter Dorscht and his father Ron. They currently expect to see anywhere from 50 to 80 species. All pledgers will have access to updates on their progress throughout the day.
Make a Donation - if you would rather make a one-time donation rather than a pledge per species in support of October Big Day, that is fine too! For online donations in Canadian Dollars, click here. For online donations in American Dollars, click here. If you would prefer to mail a cheque, you can find our mailing addresses here. Donations can also be dropped off at The Kensington Conservation Centre.
All proceeds will support The Kensington Conservancy's bluebird box trail, winter bird feeders, and our general conservation work within the St. Joseph Channel area.
