Land Protection Account

Your generosity can help TKC have the resources to protect new properties in the St. Joseph Channel area!

What Is It?

TKC's Land Protection Account was established in 2023 to help fund new land protection projects in the St. Jospeh Channel area. This projects includes the creation of new nature preserves, the signing of conservation easement agreements, or other similar projects that help permanently protect land.

Examples of expenses that the account can fund are:

  • Purchase costs
  • Stewardship fund contributions
  • Legal fees and closing costs
  • Appraisals, surveys, and other similar expenses
  • Staff time to coordinate projects

How You Can Help

If you are interested in making a donation towards the Land Protection Account, we encourage you to contact us to have a conversation about how you can support new land protection projects in the St. Joseph Channel area.

Quick Facts

Since its inception, the Land Protection Account has contributed towards the protection of three new nature preserves, which have helped protect:

  • 10.5 hectares of land
  • 2,200 metres of shoreline
  • Habitat for over 336 species of plants and wildlife

Success Stories

Turtle Rock Preserve

Thanks to the very generous donations to the Land Protection Account, in February of 2024, TKC was able to purchase Turtle Rock, as well as fund its long-term stewardship. Turtle Rock Preserve is a 3.1 hectare property with 168 metres of undeveloped shoreline along Quebec Bay. This property was named Turtle Rock by its previous owners, as the shape of the peninsula gracefully curves like the back of a majestic turtle rising from the water. It offers scenic views of the St. Joseph Island Bridge to the south and the Wilson Channel to the east.
