Gravel Point Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Join us as we unveil the Gravel Point Preserve!

Join us on June 25th as we unveil the recently acquired Gravel Point Preserve. This ribbon-cutting ceremony will include speeches from both The Kensington Conservancy and the donors who made this possible. We will have snacks and refreshments!

Staff from The Kensington Conservancy will be available to take anyone who is interested for a hike into one of the wetlands on the preserve after the ceremony. There are no established trails yet, so be prepared for some bushwhacking.

Location: Gravel Point Preserve
Date: Saturday June 25, 2022
Time: 11:00am EDT

Directions: From the Village of Hilton Beach on St. Joseph Island, continue on Highway 548 for approximately 3km. The meeting location will be just south of the intersection with Old Orchard Road.

Location on Google Maps
The Gravel Point Preserve consists of four adjacent lots for a total of 278 acres. It features mixed forests and wetlands, which is great habitat for thousands of wildlife and plant species. This is The Kensington Conservancy’s first nature preserve on St. Joseph Island and our largest protection project to-date.

A series of hiking trails will be constructed throughout the preserve that will be open to the public. In order to create these trails, as well as cover our long-term stewardship commitments and closing costs, we are launching the Gravel Point Fundraiser, where we are aiming to raise $90,000.
