Climate Change Adaptation Intern
We are looking to better understand the impacts that climate change will have on both our protected properties and the area as a whole.
The Kensington Conservancy is a local land trust that protects over 900 acres of ecologically sensitive land in the St. Joseph Channel area. We are looking to better understand the impacts that climate change will have on both our protected properties and the area as a whole. This position will combine both field work and research to better prepare the organization for the impacts of climate change. Due to COVID-19, this position may include a combination of office, field, and at-home work.
Location: Desbarats, Ontario
Duration of Contract: February 22, 2021 to February 21, 2022 (with possibility of renewal, exact dates are subject to change)
Salary: $36,400 (35 hours/week)

Duties and Responsibilities
- research how climate change may impact our local area in the future
- assess current management plans and develop adapted protocols to address climate change for all properties and habitats
- assist in adapting current organizational policies and protocols to include climate change
- collect data on species of flora and fauna currently found on protected properties and address the expected resilience in their ability to adapt to climate change
- conduct annual monitoring of protected properties
- assist with public awareness campaigns about climate change and general environmental topics
- share findings with other local organizations and the public
Qualifications and Skills Required
- a post-secondary degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Climate Change, or a related program
- excellent research and technical writing skills
- experience conducting formal field surveys
- the ability to identify local flora and fauna species
- the ability to take clear and detailed field notes
- the ability to work independently, and as a team, in the field during all weather conditions
- experience with public speaking
- the ability to work flexible hours, such as early mornings and some weekends
- experience using Microsoft Office programs
- a valid driver’s license
- access to a vehicle to use to travel from site to site
Candidate Eligibility
- graduate of a post-secondary institution within the last three years
- this internship must be your first-time employment in this field of work
- must not have previously participate in an internship program
